I haven't had that machine for years.  I went to a Gaggia with a 3-way 
valve.  Actually, I wish I still had it.

About all you can do, is wait for the pressure to subside.  If you're 
careful, you can slightly loosen the portafilter to let the pressure out. 
It gets better when the grind and tamp is right, though.

How do you relieve the pressure prior to removing the portafilter?

Or a Pavoni lever machine.  I learned the hard way what a Pavoni "sneeze"
meant.  Almost had to repaint the kitchen...
